The Dark Knight

A step up from Batman Begins, and I did like Batman Begins! A great, wild ride of a Batman movie. Heath Ledger is every bit as good as everyone has been saying. Christian Bale holds down the Bruce Wayne role reasonably well, it doesn't hurt that he interacts mostly with Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. They tend to pull other actors up as they go along. I like Gary Oldman's handle on Gordon's character as well.

How would I place this in the Batman films...#1 actually. Here's my Bat-movie list. I'm not including the 2 movie serials, Batman related films like Catwoman or even Return to the Batcave :)

1 The Dark Knight (2008)
2 Batman (1989)
3 Batman Begins (2005)
4 Batman the Movie (1966)
5 Batman Returns (1992)

and there's not a bargain bin at Walmart low enough to store the fetid DVD copies of these two crap-fests. They don't rate a number because I'm sure any Batman movies to be made in the future will be better and these sad turds will sink further and further down.
A tie for worst Batman film ever-
Batman Forever (1995)
Batman & Robin (1997)

Other movie related items-

-I think at least 50% of the audience I was with last night was stoned and the sour smell of old pot was overwhelming.

-Two puffy, middle-aged guys were getting into a fight outside the theater about who's better, DC or Marvel! :) Holy high school Batman!! When I say getting into a fight it was a typical "You wanna fight? I'll fight!" " Yeah, I wanna fight, let's do it!" bluff fest...sad really. No blows were exchanged and the honor of both DC Comics and Marvel Comics was upheld :)

I liked THE DARK KNIGHT. I wasn't really into any of the previous Batman movies in a big way, but I liked the new one. It felt most like the comic character so far. Ledger's Joker was okay, but I Loved Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon and Bale as Bruce Wayne. I'm not crazy about Batman's outfit or Batman's Cookie Monster voice, but the action was nice, and the story was well done. This was the first Batman "A" movie in my opinion. The next one should be very interesting.

I enjoyed it as well. It was weird to come out of a 'genre' or superhero flick and actually be depressed; I liked how this one was really a tragedy, and how things were not wrapped up neatly in little bows at the end.

Ledger was great, but I think Aaron Eckhart was a close second and could have stolen the show, if Ledger hadn't been so amazing. Overall, no real weak links in the cast at all (though why Bale still continued to talk in Cookie Monster even when he was with people who knew his secret identity, I will never understand).

I enjoyed it, too, though I really felt like it was a little long and I needed a serious nap afterwards to recouperate. There were a few things that bugged me in hindsight, but overall I thought it was good. It brought out the very interesting ideas that lurk in the corners of the Batman world and I like that in a superhero movie.

It's nice to see it's getting rave revues! Poor me, I still haven't seen it!
